Welcome to The Elephant Run District!!!

Picture
Elephant Run District, dreamed up in 2010 by Chris Harcum and Aimee Todoroff, is a metaphorical demilitarized zone for artists to create wild, wonderful, completely unfettered works of art that charge through the collective consciousness with the power of an elephant running the streets of Manhattan.  The District, like any community, is in a constant state of evolution, becoming more diverse and exciting as collaborators move in, set up shop and offer their creative wares to those who wander through.  We hope that by creating this space, we can create productions that- like an elephant in the city- challenge our expectations, are utterly unique, and have a beauty that inspires.

GREEN, Elephant Run District's first production, opened in Feb. 2011 at the Metropolitan Playhouse as part of it's season focusing on the theme of  "stereotypes."  This show, created & performed by Chris Harcum and directed by Aimee Todoroff, was a sci-fi solo performance adventure utilizing Chris's unique physical performance style, broad comedy and satire to explore themes of social justice, politics, and the dehumanization of the average person in a world shaped by corporate interests.  Picked as one of Martin Denton's top choices for Theatre for the Adventurous Soul, GREEN was hailed as a "highlight of the current theatrical season."

Elephant Run district produced Rabbit Island as part of the 2012 New York Frigid Festival.  Rabbit Island garnered rave reviews, was named a Backstage Critic's Pick and received an extended run at the Kraine Theatre.  Again, director Aimee Todoroff and writer Chris Harcum teamed up to create this hilarious and visually stunning tale of a Canadian Mime attempting to fit in to the Big Apple.  Mixing a Coney Island aesthetic with witty, urbane banter, Rabbit Island was an undisputed hit.  More information about Rabbit Island can be found on our webpage here.

For comments, questions or information regarding past or possible future productions, please contact Aimee or visit the ElephantRunDistrict.  We'd love to hear from you!

STAMPEDE LAB- a curated evening of indie theatre works
Every other Tuesday through Nov. 2012, Aimee's theatre company Elephant Run District hosted Stampede Lab, a curated evening of indie theater works, where artists from Off Off’s heritage mix with the people making it happen today.  The original Stampede Labs were held in the historic Living Theatre, at 21 Clinton Street.

The tradition continues at various locations throughout New York, celebrating the best of Indie Theatre as it is happening today.

3 downtown theater companies each present up to 15 minutes of soon-to-be produced  pieces. Smart, daring, funny, challenging, raw and focused. In between there will be short interviews, conversations and trivia. No lame talk-backs, no excruciating soap boxes and no rambling work.

Stampede Lab participants include:  Epic Theatre Ensemble , Peculiar Works Project, Homunculus Mask Theatre , The NY Neo-Futurists, Sponsored by Nobody, Boomerang Theatre Company, NY Artists Unlimited, Re:Group Theatre, The Soundtrack Series’ Dana Rossi, Gus Schulenburg , FullStop Collective, The 15th Floor, No. 11 Productions, Ashlin Halfnight, Sheila Head as Sandra O’Day, Bricken Sparcino, Pamala Sabaugh, Everybody Nose NYC, Original Binding, Gideon Productions, Piper McKenzie, Clancy Productions, Martin Denton, Angelica Cheri, The Middle Voice Theater Company, Una Osato, Clay McLeod Chapman, Hook & Eye Theater Company, Nicole Pandolfo, Siobhan O’Laughlin, Mariah MacCarthy, Variations Theatre Group and
