Welcome to The Elephant Run District!!!
Elephant Run District, dreamed up in 2010 by Chris Harcum and Aimee Todoroff, is a metaphorical demilitarized zone for artists to create wild, wonderful, completely unfettered works of art that charge through the collective consciousness with the power of an elephant running the streets of Manhattan. The District, like any community, is in a constant state of evolution, becoming more diverse and exciting as collaborators move in, set up shop and offer their creative wares to those who wander through. We hope that by creating this space, we can create productions that- like an elephant in the city- challenge our expectations, are utterly unique, and have a beauty that inspires.
GREEN, Elephant Run District's first production, opened in Feb. 2011 at the Metropolitan Playhouse as part of it's season focusing on the theme of "stereotypes." This show, created & performed by Chris Harcum and directed by Aimee Todoroff, was a sci-fi solo performance adventure utilizing Chris's unique physical performance style, broad comedy and satire to explore themes of social justice, politics, and the dehumanization of the average person in a world shaped by corporate interests. Picked as one of Martin Denton's top choices for Theatre for the Adventurous Soul, GREEN was hailed as a "highlight of the current theatrical season."
Elephant Run district produced Rabbit Island as part of the 2012 New York Frigid Festival. Rabbit Island garnered rave reviews, was named a Backstage Critic's Pick and received an extended run at the Kraine Theatre. Again, director Aimee Todoroff and writer Chris Harcum teamed up to create this hilarious and visually stunning tale of a Canadian Mime attempting to fit in to the Big Apple. Mixing a Coney Island aesthetic with witty, urbane banter, Rabbit Island was an undisputed hit. More information about Rabbit Island can be found on our webpage here.
